Everything went off without a hitch. The 2 hours at Stonehenge were a bit tight, but that was planned in advance. Very nice experience!

Fantastic experience. The driver Mustafa was very kind and provided us with a bag with lunch. Stonehenge is, to say the least, fabulous and the audio guide included and downloadable to your cell phone helps you understand a lot about that magical place. Absolutely recommended tour.

Everything about our trip to Windsor/Stonehenge/Oxford was amazing! Our guide Phil and our driver Amajit were very helpful. Phil is an outstanding guide and very informative about our journey and destinations. We had a great time and we will definitely use the agency more in the future!

Comfortable bus. Driver Patrick and guide Chrissie friendly and Chrissie knew a lot about all the sights. Everything was well organized. Despite not being able to go to Oxford due to a blowout on the highway. Fortunately Patrick was able to stop the bus on an emergency lane. Waiting for new transportation took time and it was too late to go to Oxford. Even so, we were still on the road for 11 hours. We were to receive a refund from the bus company. This was also arranged the same day. Too bad v Oxford, can happen and handled well and quickly.

The beautiful cathedrals of Salisbury were eerily haunting: the Gothic architecture had me gasping and gawking from time to time

The Stonehenge was eye opening, I never wanted to leave and the Salisbury had me gawking the entire way: this combo is great!

Top things to do in London

Stonehenge may be your headline attraction, but the surrounding region is full of historic towns, royal landmarks and scenic countryside worth adding to your plans. This guide helps you make the most of your visit with nearby activities, easy day trips and smart combo suggestions.

Top attractions near Stonehenge

Salisbury Cathedral with its spire and surrounding trees on a sunny day.

Salisbury Cathedral & Old Sarum

  • Distance from Stonehenge: 15 km

It’s hard not to be impressed by Salisbury Cathedral’s sheer height and beauty, especially once you spot the Magna Carta inside. Old Sarum nearby gives you an atmospheric slice of Norman military history in a single, windswept site.

Avebury stone circle in a green field, part of a full-day tour from London.

Avebury Stone Circle

  • Distance from Stonehenge: 41 km

More relaxed and spread out than Stonehenge, Avebury’s ancient stones sit around a peaceful village setting. You’ll also spot a historic church, thatched cottages and grassy embankments which hint at its puzzling prehistoric past.

Roman Baths in Bath, England, with tourists exploring the ancient site.

Roman City of Bath

  • Distance from Stonehenge: 55 km

From 2,000-year-old Roman plunge pools to Jane Austen-era drawing rooms, Bath is a full history lesson in pretty stone. Soak up sights like Bath Abbey, Pulteney Bridge, and the iconic Royal Crescent on foot in just a few hours.

Windsor Castle's Round Tower surrounded by lush gardens under a clear blue sky.

Windsor Castle

  • Distance from Stonehenge: 75 km

Britain’s oldest occupied royal residence, Windsor Castle is packed with staterooms, portraits and regal history. Highlights include St George’s Chapel and the lavish Queen’s Apartments. It’s the kind of place where centuries of coronations and ceremonies suddenly feel surprisingly real.

Stone bridge and historic house in a Cotswolds village, part of Blenheim Palace and Downton Abbey tour.

The Cotswolds

  • Distance from Stonehenge: 90 km

This officially designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is made for long lunches, scenic hikes and browsing local crafts. Expect sheep, honey-coloured villages and irresistible countryside picnic spots around every bend.

Radcliffe Camera at Oxford University, England, surrounded by historic buildings and green lawns.

Oxford

  • Distance from Stonehenge: 100 km

Home to the oldest university in the English-speaking world, Oxford brims with historic colleges, quaint courtyards and cosy bookshops. Climb the University Church tower for skyline views and pop into the Bodleian Library where Harry Potter scenes were filmed.

Visitor tips

  • Use Salisbury as a hub: Staying overnight in Salisbury lets you easily combine Stonehenge with Bath, Avebury and Windsor without doubling back along country roads unnecessarily.
  • National rail day pass trick: A South Western Railway day pass via Salisbury can often be cheaper than individual tickets if you plan to hop between multiple towns in one day.
  • Plan your Oxford itinerary: In Oxford, skip Christ Church first thing and hit smaller colleges instead. The crowds arrive there midday, saving you at least forty minutes of queuing.
  • Avoid Friday Bath traffic: Bath gets heavily gridlocked from Friday lunchtime onward. Doing Bath midweek or early morning is key for avoiding serious delays on your return drive.
  • See Old Sarum at dusk: Old Sarum is often deserted after 4pm. Visiting at the end of your day delivers incredible sunset views without cutting into your touring hours.
  • Winchester instead of Oxford return: Rather than doubling back to Oxford after Stonehenge, return via Winchester Cathedral to break the journey and see a bonus historic landmark.
  • Pick Windsor Castle on a Tuesday: The State Apartments are occasionally closed on Sundays and Mondays for royal events. Tuesdays offer the most complete Windsor Castle experience.
  • Join last Windsor guard change: The final Changing of the Guard is less crowded than the morning one, so visit Windsor Castle afterwards to cut waiting time on both fronts.
  • Check sunset times for better photos: If your combo includes Oxford or Bath, end at Stonehenge around sunset. The light is better for photography and crowds are thinner.
  • Carry Exact Coins for Park Meters: Smaller towns like Marlborough, Devizes and Avebury still rely on coin-operated parking meters, which don’t accept cards or apps — having coins saves last-minute scrambling.
