Everything went off without a hitch. The 2 hours at Stonehenge were a bit tight, but that was planned in advance. Very nice experience!

Fantastic experience. The driver Mustafa was very kind and provided us with a bag with lunch. Stonehenge is, to say the least, fabulous and the audio guide included and downloadable to your cell phone helps you understand a lot about that magical place. Absolutely recommended tour.

Comfortable bus. Driver Patrick and guide Chrissie friendly and Chrissie knew a lot about all the sights. Everything was well organized. Despite not being able to go to Oxford due to a blowout on the highway. Fortunately Patrick was able to stop the bus on an emergency lane. Waiting for new transportation took time and it was too late to go to Oxford. Even so, we were still on the road for 11 hours. We were to receive a refund from the bus company. This was also arranged the same day. Too bad v Oxford, can happen and handled well and quickly.

The beautiful cathedrals of Salisbury were eerily haunting: the Gothic architecture had me gasping and gawking from time to time

Visitor tips

  • Pick a seat on the left side of the coach when leaving London to enjoy better countryside views towards Wiltshire and Somerset.
  • Carry a compact rain poncho instead of an umbrella because winds around Stonehenge often make umbrellas ineffective.
  • Download the Stonehenge audio guide app using Wi-Fi before leaving, as mobile data can be unreliable at the monument.
  • Bring a zoom lens or binoculars for Stonehenge because most public tours view the circle from a set perimeter rather than inside.
  • Try to be near Bath Abbey at the quarter hour to catch the charming chimes of its historic bells.
  • Pre-book Roman Baths tickets if they are optional on your tour, since walk-up lines can significantly cut into your Bath free time.
  • Confirm your pick-up point in Bath before exploring, since coaches often collect passengers from slightly different locations nearby.

Frequently Asked Questions about Bath & Stonehenge tour from London

Are there direct train routes that work better than coach tours for this combo?

Not directly. The fastest route is by train to Salisbury (for Stonehenge via taxi) and then another train to Bath. But it requires tight scheduling and advance planning.

Are there restrooms near Stonehenge once you arrive at the visitor centre?

Yes, the main visitor centre at Stonehenge has clean public toilets. None are available at the stones themselves, so best to go before boarding the shuttle.

Can I realistically fit in the Roman Baths in under an hour?

Yes, but only if you skip the audio guide and focus on the main sections. Enter later in the afternoon to avoid queues and move more efficiently.

How far in advance do I need to book combo tours from London to guarantee seats?

Tours combining Bath and Stonehenge usually release tickets 60 to 90 days ahead. Book 3–4 weeks in advance in summer to secure early departure slots.

Is it better to take a guided tour or visit independently?

A guided tour saves major time and stress, especially with rural transport between Stonehenge and Bath. Independent travel is flexible but trickier to coordinate in one day.

How much walking is involved on this kind of day trip?

Expect about 6,000–8,000 steps: a short countryside walk at Stonehenge and around 90 minutes of walking through Bath’s historic centre, including some hills and uneven paving.

Can I visit the Royal Crescent in Bath without doing a full museum tour?

Yes, the Royal Crescent is free to view from the outside. You can take photos and walk the lawns without entering the No.1 Royal Crescent museum.

Are these tours suitable for kids or elderly travellers?

Yes, but check if the tour has long walking sections. Some coaches offer audio commentary and optional walking distances, making it easier for mixed-age groups.

What time do most day trips return to London?

Most guided tours return between 6:30pm and 8pm depending on traffic and how long you spend at each stop. Delays are common during summer evenings.

What should I do if I miss my return coach or train?

Keep a list of alternate evening trains from Bath Spa or Salisbury to London. For coach tours, contact the operator because some offer standby seats on later buses.
